JCA.2026.040 — Interior Endoscopic Technical Study
An illustrated technical examination of JCA.2026.040, a hollow seated terracotta figure provisionally attributed to ancient West Mexico. Based on seven interior endoscope recordings, this study documents the figure’s hollow construction, cranial roof geometry, possible hand-worked joining seam, ceramic fabric, firing-related color variations, and localized dark and pale surface deposits. Comparative analysis draws upon published archaeological and conservation research, including Christian de Brer’s 2025 UCLA study of ancient West Mexican ceramics. Particular attention is given to potential manganese-bearing mineralization, traditional ceramic construction techniques, and the limitations of visual authentication. The report presents photographic evidence, construction hypotheses, scholarly comparisons, and recommendations for further non-destructive investigation. Cultural attribution, material identifications, and antiquity remain provisional pending scientific examination.
