JCA.2026.057 is a Swiss-made Alfred Dunhill Rollagas butane pocket lighter measuring approximately 2 5/8 × 1 × 0.5 in. Its plated brass exterior is cut with continuous vertical fluting across the body and lid, and the object uses the characteristic side-mounted knurled roller ignition and hinged cap of the Rollagas family. The base is marked “dunhill,” “MADE IN SWITZERLAND,” and “US RE 24163 PATENTED.” Those markings, together with the regulated-gas architecture and proportions, provide a substantially stronger identification than finish alone. Moderate edge wear, recess darkening and base scratching record use rather than a distinct production series.

The Rollagas is a refillable liquefied-gas lighter rather than a petrol wick lighter. Dunhill’s historical account emphasizes its regulated butane delivery, adjustable flame and precision valve system. U.S. Reissue Patent 24,163, issued 5 June 1956 to Conrad Zellweger and assigned to La Nationale SA of Geneva, describes a filling valve for liquefied-gas pyrophoric lighters using a hollow needle and coordinated filling/venting passages.
